Robert Carter Jul 7, 2017:
May I just mention that Dr Jason Faulkner's comment on Helena's entry was not there when I posted mine. Saludos a todos!
neilmac Jul 7, 2017:
I'd post "inpatient practice" as an answer. Or maybe "practice in hospital inpatient procedures" (pax Helena).
Leda Roche Jul 7, 2017:
I like "inpatient practice", but there is no answer to agree with.
Helena Chavarria Jul 6, 2017:
The code set all providers, including physicians, used to report medical diagnoses and procedures in U.S. health care settings and hospital inpatient procedures on claims for services furnished through September 30, 2015.

I was thinking of 'hospital inpatient procedures'.

Hospital inpatient procedures

Why did the transition to ICD-10 happen?
The transition took place because ICD-9 codes have limited information about patients’ medical conditions and hospital inpatient procedures. The ICD-9 code structure has been in place for 30 years.
The terms currently used in ICD-9 have become outdated, obsolete and inconsistent with current medical practices. In addition, the structure of ICD-9 limits the number of new codes that can be created, and many ICD-9 categories are full.

ICD-9
In 2003, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) named ICD-9 as the code set for reporting diagnoses and hospital inpatient procedures in electronic administrative transactions.

It is also common to see terms such as 'procedures performed as inpatient cases'.

Surgical procedures are medical interventions involving an incision with instruments usually performed in an operating theatre and normally involving anaesthesia and/or respiratory assistance. Surgical procedures can be performed either as inpatient cases, day cases or, in certain instances, as outpatient cases. Procedures performed on an inpatient case and day case should be reported for all the procedures on the shortlist. For two procedures, the number of outpatient cases in hospitals and outside hospitals should also be reported where possible.

Inpatient admission procedures/ Intern training?

In the same vein, if it refers to hospitalisation, when working in a UK hospital we talked of 'admitting patients´ and 'patient admission procedures' if this contributes to your thinking in any way. At the same time my hand held dictionary mentions training of interns as "interno / alumno en prácticas´which would seem to have some relevance to the word 'prácticas' here. That said without seeing the document these are only guesses. And I am not a medical specialist despite hospital work experience (non-medical).

p.s. In UK English 'inpatient procedures' sounds more like 'operations' to me, which presumably could link to the catheter placement but I am not sure that is what was meant by the colleagues who have commented?

Procedures performed during hospitalization

Given the asker's context, I don't think this refers to a generic concept such as "procedures performed as inpatient cases"; instead it appears to me to be a record of specific procedures performed while this patient was hospitalized.

The term "procedures performed during hospitalization" does appear to be one used regularly in medical insurance contexts and statistical contexts:

Care Transition Record-Procedures Performed During Hospitalization
Collected For: ACHF-03,
Definition: Documentation in the care transition record includes procedures performed during hospitalization. Procedures may be diagnostic (e.g., echocardiogram), therapeutic (e.g., thoracentesis), or surgical (e.g., pacemaker insertion).

https://manual.jointcommission.org/releases/TJC2016B/DataEle...

ICD-10-CM is used to code inpatient diagnoses, as of October 1, 2014 (dates of discharge earlier than this use ICD-9-CM), and ICD-10-PCS (procedural coding system) Volume 3 is used to code procedures performed during hospitalization.

Some of the variables available in the NIS database include primary reason for hospitalization, presence of comorbid conditions (available from NIS disease-severity files), procedures performed during hospitalization, age, sex, race, insurance status, disposition status, length of stay in hospital, charges, and type of admission

The database includes both admission and discharge diagnoses as well as procedures performed during hospitalization.
