"This is a hemodynamic test of hepatic vasculature, to measure the hepatic venous pressure gradient ( HVPG ) that defines the presence of portal hypertension."

With a little bit more research, I think it might be a typo... maybe the were trying to measure cholesterol?

"Según sus hallazgos, y en base a anteriores estudios que ya mencionaban cierta relación entre el colesterol HDL y la relación intestino-hígado, llegaron a la conclusión de que el mencionado HDL3 se movía directamente desde el intestino al hígado mediante la vena porta. En otros tejidos, el colesterol HDL viaja mediante el sistema linfático, pero este sistema no une el intestino con el hígado. Por ello la vena porta sería la clave."
