I was curious to know if anyone of you have any experience in notes making in any important event. Not necessarily interpretation.
Please share your experiences about how to start, proceed ahead, Dos and don'ts and other stuffs. Any knowledge sharing link would be appreciated.

Dear Prakaash,
note-taking is very easy. In my case it is actually something that I practiced since primary school and mastered it at University. It is very individual, though, so with time of practicing it you will develop your own system.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by " Not necessarily interpretation", PRAKAASH. Do you want to attend a conference or a seminar and take notes there?

When I am interpreting, my goal is to memorize a passage up to 60 words (hopefully, not longer than that), regurgitate it in a different language, and then - forget about it. The notes I take for this purpose would look like unintelligible scribble to anyone but myself. Over the years, I developed my own system. I used bits and pieces of different systems (including Rozan, but not limited to it) and built on. It's a combination of pictures, symbols and abbreviated words in three languages, plus lines and arrows. It helps my memory (it does not replace it, of course).
A couple of days after interpreting, I will look at my notes and not know what they mean.
But if I want to attend a conference or a seminar which really interests me and to remember what was said a long time after it, then it's a completely different goal, and my method of note-taking would be completely different. I would write down (with minimum abbreviations) the key thoughts and main ideas of what has been said. It will definitely not look like unintelligible scribble, and I will be able to read it a long time after the event. ▲ Collapse

I agree. My own consec notes are almost completely unintelligible to me a few weeks after I made them, which is no problem for consec (I can use them just fine on the spot)... but this is not what you want from any other notes.
If I really wanted to take good notes at a conference or lecture for later use, I may opt to use my laptop. I can type faster (and more legibly!) than I can write by hand and having stuff on the comp is always nice for subsequent searching, editing, sharing etc. Of course a voice recording could also come in handy.

Many thanks for your feedbacks. What I understood earlier that it was Note-taking/writing. It, actually, was English minuting. I was informed exactly 4-5 hours before the seminar about this. Anyway, it's over now and task is going to be completed with final editing stuffs with the help of another colleague.

At first, I would like to apologize for this delayed reply. I thought it necessary to thank all those who helped me with this particular task and showed their friendly concerns.

I was provided with ample amount of papers. I was teamed up with an experienced gentleman, who was helpful.

I was provided with ample amount of papers. I was teamed up with an experienced gentleman, who was helpful.
I wrote as much as I can in the meeting, with ample amt. of short forms like btw, T'ph lines.... etc. We were provided with audio tapes for help for finalizing notes over the system.
When the event finished up in the evening, we returned back. I had to work overnight listening to audio tapes, identifying the stuffs and noting them down in ms word file after creating one with the help of paper written notes. In the early morning next day, I was able to finish up the stuffs. I sent them to that experienced guy, who was also making his own notes. The task was divided somewhat in a 45:55 ratio. I surely appreciate that guy and give credit to him as well. But, that's how, god comes to rescue for a genuine guy.
I was told that he was able to finish up the stuffs in the afternoon at around 2'o clock and sent those files to the agency ultimately. It was a pretty tiring task for me however full of experiences.
From next time onwards, I will make it sure to carry my laptop in such an event as I am pretty fast enough with typing.
Also, I thank all Proz colleagues and friends hereby, who participated and provided their suggestions & opinions here. All these suggestions helped me preparing for this task. Thank you all by heart!
