Yes - except if it falls on a Sunday! Oct 9, 2009

My main job is teaching, so my late November birthday is in term time, so a working day, unless it falls at the weekend.

Saturdays tend to involve some work for teaching, translating or just housework.

Sundays I only work if I absolutely have to. On a good birthday someone else will even cook meals and wash up afterwards

After giving birth to my first child (quite hard work, but not SO bad it

After giving birth to my first child (quite hard work, but not SO bad it put me off having another 3!!!) I decided birthdays are VERY SPECIAL and important enough to be celebrated every year! Everyone in the family gets a cake and a special meal as well as a card and a present for their birthday.

i try not to Oct 9, 2009

Since I'm freelance, i get the chance to take a day off, if i can. Why not? I should point out that i don't really make a huge big deal out of my birthday, but it's nice to take the day off and do some things for myself.

Like bookworm, my birthday is also late november, the 29. WHen I was in university, it was right at the end of the semester which meant exams and studying and writing papers... I'd wait until the weekend or the holiday to actually party. So i figure now I can take

if i lived in the US, my birthday would fall right in the Thanksgiving holiday!

I noticed that most people didn't say WHEN their birthday is...it would be fun to know.

I can't imagine not working on my birthday - Could this be cultural? Oct 10, 2009

I'm really impressed by many of the answers here. I thought I was sentimental about my birthday, but I would never dream of not working because it was my birthday. Could this be an American thing maybe? I realize that we Americans (living in the US) tend to have a more workaholic lifestyle, work late into the night, take fewer vacation days, go to the office when we're sick, etc. - Mind you, I'm not saying that we accomplish more...

Yes, if Oct 10, 2009

I have work to do, I work as I would on any other day.

I haven't been working much the last few days because of my granny's 80s and my grandpa's 82nd birthday.
Helping others (and having no work ) is the only thing that keeps me from working.

My father died on my birthday when I was eight years old. On the next day, 10 September, he would celebrate his 40th birthday. therefore this day, 9 September turned to me for a day of remembrance and I rarely celebrate my own birthday.

Happy birthday to all of you
