Source text - English Earth-Pressure-Balance-Shields (short description EPB-Shield or Earth-
Pressure-Shield) are in particular used with cohesive ground conditions
such as loam and clay. This ground conditions also have slight water
pervious.
The principle of the earth pressure balance shield is to maintain support of
the tunnel face at the pressure required to prevent subsidence or heave. By
matching the rate of advance of the machine with the rate of removal of the
excavated material, the excavated material (including ground water and any
materials added to stabilize the spoil for removal) being used as the means
to support the face.
To use the excavated material as a supporting medium it shall have the
following qualities.
• good plastic ductileness
• mushy to soft consistency
• slight inner friction
• slight water pervious
The method used to regulate the earth pressure during machine advance
at a given speed is to regulate the speed of the screw conveyor. When
material is removed by the screw conveyor at a higher volume rate of flow
than it is being excavated by the advance of the cutting head, the earth
pressure will drop, with the possibility of subsidence occurring at the
surface. Conversely, if material is removed at a lower rate of flow than that
at which it is being excavated, then the earth pressure will rise, and heave
may result.
If the excavated material has to be conditioned to get it into a form suitable
for handling with the screw conveyor, then the potential changes to the
earth pressure that may result in the addition of any conditioning materials
used (e.g. foam) must be taken into account.

Щит с грунтопригрузом (EPB-Щит) используется для работы в условиях вязкой породы, состоящей из глины или глинозема. Такие грунты обладают слабой проницаемостью воды.
Принцип работы щита основан на поддержании в груди тоннеля давления, необходимого для предотвращения оседания или вспучивания грунта. Извлеченная порода (включая грунтовую воду и другой попутный материал, добавляемый для упрочнения грунта) служит в качестве средства поддержания груди посредством соизмерения количества извлекаемого грунта со степенью проходки.
Для того, чтобы извлекаемая порода могла использоваться в качестве опорнго материала, она должна обладать следующими свойствами:
• хорошая дуктильность
• мягкая консистенция
• незначительное внутреннее трение
• Слабая проницаемость воды
Регулирование давления при проходке с заданной скоростью основано на изменении скорости вращения шнекового конвейера. Когда вынос породы шнековым конвейером осуществляется в большем объеме, чем ее извлечение рабочим органом, давление в тоннеле ослабевает и повышается вероятность проседания поверхностного грунта. И наоборот – если вынос породы происходит в меньшем объеме, давление в тоннеле возрастает, что может вызвать вспучивание грунта.
При наличии необходимости доведения извлекаемой породы до консистенции, позволяющей ей проходить в шнековом конвейере, следует учитывать возможное изменение давления грунта, вызванное добавлением дополнительных материалов (например: пены).
