I am Brazilian, in my mid-thirties, looking to work with something at which I realize I am talented. I don't mean to brag, but never in my life have I had difficulties with languages, especially English, and I am seeking to make a living with this talent. I mean, actually I have almost a decade worth of experience as a sworn translator in my State and I have translated many different types of work in this capacity, although it is mostly legal paperwork and there can be long periods without jobs.
I would like to do freelance work because of the freedom it affords; I have increasingly felt office work to be tedious and constraining, not to mention a salary that just barely allows for the bills to be paid and superiors that have little to no positive feedback to offer (and what little they do is either insincere or backhanded). Plus I found I prefer to chase after jobs rather than wait for them to come to me, because I have had bad experiences with customers in my office as a sworn translator, who would either demand unreasonable deadlines or simply disappear as soon as they learned of the budget for a job. With me looking for jobs, I believe I can have less of these headaches.
I have a degree in Computing Science, so I have some qualifications in translating this sort of text, but with the time spent translating other types of text, ranging from legal to medical, I believe I can apply my knowledge of a second language to a number of different areas. I can translate from Spanish as well, but I'm not good enough in the language to translate into it.
Anyway, I don't have much more to say aside from my hobbies, which are comic books, video games, good music (mostly rock music - I sing in the shower and have tried my hand at guitar), Web surfing... All of which I can translate as well if the opportunity presents itself.
