With a scientific background and work experience in industry, I decided to specialise in technical translation focusing on science & technology - specifically nuclear technology. I also have a lot of experience translating in fields such as the environment (wastewater treatment, carbon emissions & sustainability), agriculture (animal husbandry, fruit & veg and meat marketing) and the European labour market.

On a more creative front, I enjoy the challenge of tackling magazines and websites and have worked on four quarterly publications: the house magazine of an internationally renowned business school (translation/language-editing), the employee magazine of an international hotel group (language-editing/copywriting), the e-newsletter of a security group (translation) and the quarterly employee magazine of a Belgian construction group (translation from NL/FR).

I regularly work for a major Belgian French-speaking university, translating academic papers, web pages, publications, course descriptions, information for international students and exhibition texts for the university's museum.

Before taking a language degree, I was a chemist in Scotland. I have work experience in the UK (ICI and British Nuclear Fuels plc) and the Netherlands (policy research institute and Ernst & Young). I have nearly 40 years' experience as a translator, 30 as a freelance in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
