Dear Greek Prozians, or should I say neighbours? I've been searching for some time now for a Greek etymologic online source (in Latin alphabet) to look up for the origins of fish names in Turkish. Many names of the sea fish come directly from Greek but unfortunately there is no source in Turkish about the meanings of the original words. Some examples are kefal (tr) / Kephalos (gr) Grey mullet (eng) istavrit / stavridi (savridi)/ horse mackerel izmarit / smaridi (marida) / piceral-pickarel I'd realy apreciate if someone could forward me to an useful source. I can find the Greek names of these fish, that's not a problem. The problem is that I also want to find the meaning of these Greek words. Many thank in advance Murat Karahan Turkey ▲ Collapse
