Although my B.A. concentrations are not directly linked to transcription or translational work, my vast knowledge of English and Spanish grammar and syntax qualified me for a secretarial, editorial, and translation position in the US Forest Service, where I mostly worked on editing and translating documents in English and Spanish.
Due to the growing number of veterans returning from the two latest US wars, my position as a student employee has been compromised in order to make way for new veteran employees. If my academic career has given me a solid foundation in technical translation, CAT tools and terminology research, studying abroad was crucial in my education too, not only because it allowed me to reach an excellent language level, but also because it broadened my cultural horizons. During my semesters abroad at the Fachhochschule Köln and at the University of California Santa Barbara, I also took a variety of classes ranging from environment studies to screenwriting which provided me with fresh expert knowledge.
In addition to this, I had a bilingual upbringing, my mother coming from the German-speaking part of Switzerland, and have been initiated to the world of arts and architecture since my early childhood in Switzerland (the land of museums!), which then led me to study stage design in Rome before devoting myself to translating.
I was very fond of reading during my childhood and I still am an enthusiastic reader; in line with my passion for contemporary literature, I translated Irvine Welsh’s short story Miss Arizona into Italian for my bachelor’s thesis; for my master’s thesis, I translated an excerpt from the novel Die dunkle Seite des Mondes by Swiss author Martin Suter from German into Italian.
My professional experience has equipped me with very good management skills, as far as the translation workflow is concerned, and has led me to penetrate the core activity of a professional translator.
