| Checked in | Oleg Shirokov Perfect quality, 30 yrs in translation Native in Russian Freelancer | Bio: 1. Oleg Shirokov
Brief presentation
My name is Oleg. My native language is Russian. I live in Moscow, Russia. I work as the translator for 18 years. I gained valuable experience in such areas of specialization as software localization, computer hardware, telecom...munications and industrial equipment. I localized web pages, translated various operation manuals and instructions, technical and marketing materials as well as books. Software localization is my main area of specialization since 1993. I worked as software developer for 8 years. That is why I have a deep insight into computer and network technologies and respective terminology. So I guarantee high quality and accuracy of translations concerning software/hardware/networks. I translated many user manuals and instructions, Online Help, GUI and so on, which I localized fully or partly. Please look at the list of large localization projects, which I completed in 2006 – 2011.
Due to my high throughput (2,500 words/day and more) I can translate very large projects. In my work I use various CAT tools (SDL Trados 2006, Déjà Vu, Alchemy Catalyst, Logoport, Microsoft Helium, Idiom, Passolo), DTP (Page Maker, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress) and other software (electronic dictionaries, PDF-Converter, AutoCAD, Photoshop 8.0, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, FineReader 8.0 Pro, etc.). I am able to learn any new software. I effectively use my computer system (Pentium 4: Intel CPU, 3.7 GHz, 2.00 GB RAM, 600 GB HDD) with all necessary advanced software (Windows XP Professional, MS Office 2003 and so on). I am available 12 hours a day, 7 days a week via Internet (high-speed ADSL access, 100 Mbit/s) or by mobile phone. During my working hours (8:00 - 20:00 CET) I reply to all e-mail messages within 15-20 minutes. I work at weekends and all holidays.
I always check the completed translation using my check method which includes: spell-check, proofreading (2 times), making corrections and emendations, secondary spell-check, tag checking (if there are tags in the text) and checking for double spaces. This procedure enables to execute quality assurance (QA) testing effectively. During the checking 4 eye principle (i. e. 2 persons check the text) is used. It is not a problem for me because my wife is also an experienced translator. So my check method is more rigorous than DIN EN ISO 9001:2000. During translating I use special Russian standards (GOST, SNiP, etc. — I use a large collection of standards) as reference materials and for terminology consistency. Moreover I can outsource an external expert for proof¬reading because I have good relations with colleagues from Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages and several large Russian translation agencies. For large translation projects I can engage my wife and several reliable colleagues.
