Spanish term

JM.

Spanish to English Other Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
This is written at the bottom of a marriage certificate from the Dominican Republic. It is on its own in the middle of the page, level with the registrar's signatute. I wondered if it was initials, but it does not fit with the registrars name.

Justice of the Peace

I believe the JM stands for juez municipal, which can be translated as magistrate or justice of the peace:

♦ juez de paz justice of the peace, magistrate
♦ juez municipal magistrate

and this text indicates that in Spain, the juez de paz was known as the juez municipal in the 1800s:

Juris Master

o Magister Juris

No descarto la opción Kathryn, aunque Juez Municipal y Registrar creo que son cargos excluyentes, es decir, no se pueden revestir los dos cargos a la vez.

Algún dominicano que nos confirme
