Comment: "Thanks - Must-see is best in the context."

Christopher Crockett
: This is the best answer, so far, even though it doesn't, literally, convey the "inescapeable/must-see" aspect. Describe the museum in hyperbolic terms and, de facto, it becomes "inescapeable" to a tourist.

Thanks, but I like yours better - i.e., "the T. museum, a definite must"

donovan983
: That simply isn't the meaning. The brochure doesn't say there are no equal or better museums in the world. It just says that if you go to Albi, that museum should definitely be on your list.

Yes, I understand your point - just offering a suggestion based on the "flavour" of the rest of the wording

: has a negative connotation; does not convey the meaning not to be missed, but more the idea can't miss it even if you want to

: I have to agree with writeaway --the negative connotation associated with "unavoidable" make it the wrong word to use, since you'd have to explain it.

infamous
Suggests both must see and unavoidable in the sense that it is so famous in those parts. to Simon Olivier, yes Ste Cecile is hard to miss as well...
suggest "enthralled" for charme.

BARK! Ok I disagree with me too. Although in a sense, Lautrec was infamous in some ways... OK OK my answer stinks... I saw your profile. Pretty cool. Do you know Albi as well?

it was a long time ago, at least for some... But this has nothing to do with Lautrec. It was during the Albi crusade. Yes, it is completely irrelevant.

: Of course. Remeber the golden rule: French sentences are always too long. Thus: Albi’s charm lies in its old quarters. The Toulouse Lautrec museum is of course a must, and the Tarn etc. etc.

Don't pass up...
I'd simply re-write the phrase using a verb to provide better flow in English: Albi : charme par ses vieux quartiers, don't pass up the Toulouse Lautrec Mudeum and the Tarn, au pied du Palais de la Berbie, offre un spectacle inoubliable

start your visit with one of the most attended museums in the region, named after the legendary TL.
Complete rewording... (TL = Toulouse Lautrec).
Come to think of it there just isn't any eloquent way to translate literally.
Hope this makes up for infamous... (much closer in fact to infâme).
Suggesting to start there implies that the museum is one of the greatest attractions, legendary emphasizes it. I think it gives a good account of "incontournable".

: "most attended" is very awkward - more idiomatic to say most popular - one attends concerts and visits museums
