English term

X-ray

English to Spanish Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
By his estimate, well-to-do X-ray tupes made up a third of the crowd at the Cross Creek shopping center in the heart of Malibu.

Discussion

Alex Gibert (asker) Sep 16, 2010:
Alex, te recomiendo ampliar tu pregunta para incluir "well-to-do X-ray tupes".

transparentes

well-to do x-ray tupes = idiotas transparentes con dinero.
Transparentes meaning with no ambiguity, like open books.
X-ray = see through

I think Susana got 'tupe' exactly right.

In response to Adriana's comment and for those who might come accross this in the future:

'transparentes' was suggested as in conjunction with 'tupes', not with 'types'. In any case, it does say something in Spanish. Check definitions 3 and 4 in DRAE or see the word used in: http://www.data-red.com/cgi-bin/articulos/ver.pl?id=20095111... or http://www.rrhh-web.com/Como_jefe_eres_intimidante_o_motivad...

Again, 'idiotas' or 'inútiles' was suggested for 'tupes' not for 'types'.

When we were told of the typo, I understood that 'x-ray' was referring to size. However, I would not use 'esbeltas' as it has a very positive connotation that I cannot see in 'x-ray'.

Maybe the context could help. I suppose it is a science fiction novel or something like that. I think that this is the only possible translation since for what I know, it is not an idiom or expression.

"Tupes" is a hairstyle.

inútiles retardados

An insult to use when somebody is being a retard, it can be used in various different forms - preferably the most complicated. It makes the insult funnier if the victim doesn't know what you're on about. Which you most likely won't - because you are all tupes, who don't own awesome home-made certificates. *Originated from the mistake of spelling 'type', 'tupe'. Well done ;]

Suerte
