Spanish term

autor maldito

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
This seems to be a set phrase, and I'd appreciate an appropriately idiomatic equivalent in English, rather than a literal translation. The vibe I'm getting is that it means an author or filmmaker who is unconventional, rebellious, and heterodox. Not one who is cursed in the literal or figurative sense.

The text I'm dealing with uses it to describe Cuban filmmaker Jorge Molina, whose work Wikipedia describes as "irreverent and provocative."

Thanks!

Any chance we could have the full sentence? :)

black sheep (author)

This is what comes to mind, but it doesn't really trip off the tongue... Unless we don't include the word "author"... Can we have a sentence pls?

accursed author

I think this expression is in reasonably widespread use.

An example:

"He is one of the rare directors capable of recounting murder and acts of torture in a tranquil tone – watch “Ten Monologues from the Lives of Serial Killers” if you need convincing. He is a modern day “Accursed Author” in the style of Baudelaire or Georges Bataille."

neutral Andrew Bramhall : Not really widespread IMHO

well I looked it up because it was an expression I'd heard used, but then I could be a bit odd ;-)

If it is used directly to describe a filmmaker, I would substitute "filmmaker" for "author".

subversive author

Since my particular point of view after review and enjoy Molina´s work "maldito" will not be a proper adjective, but subversive (seditious)...

Take a look on Polonsky work and biography...
