French term

artères digestives

French to English Medical Medical (general) Cardiovascular system
This is from a medical report, which mentions 'stenting sur les artères renales, artères digestives....'

I'm actually proofreading this translation, but the translator's suggestion of 'digestive arteries' doesn't seem to exist. Does anyone know what these should be in English?

Discussion

Daryo Mar 26, 2016:
exactly you can't argue with anatomical correctness - not open to discussion or impressions ...
Charles Davis Mar 25, 2016:

So they include the mesenteric arteries, but these are only two out of the three: they supply the gut but not the stomach.

Thanks, Carolien! Mesenteric arteris sounds great, thanks! That link was also helpful.

arteries of the abdominal digestive tract OR gastrointestinal arteries

http://www.medix.free.fr/sim/chirurgie-arteres-digestives.ph...

La vascularisation artérielle digestive est classiquement caractérisée par un système à trois étages naissant de l’aorte abdominale : tronc coeliaque, artère mésentérique supérieure (AMS) et artère mésentérique inférieure (AMI).

Three major aortic branches provide the gastrointestinal blood supply: celiac artery (CA), superior mesenteric artery (SMA), and inferior mesenteric arteries (IMA).

digestive arteries

See at the link: digestive arteries is the generic name for the arteries connected with the digestive system.
Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Davis : Reasonably common, in fact.

neutral philgoddard : It doesn't get many hits, and they mostly seem to be translations.

mesenteric or intestinal arteries

The three main “artères digestives” are the celiac axis, the superior mesenteric artery and the inferior mesenteric artery (see, for example, http://www.fmcgastro.org/postu-main/postu-2013-paris/textes-... and http://www.macirculation.com/Stenose-des-arteres-digestives_...

Compare the information at these two sites with the following:

"The mesenteric system is the arteries and small blood vessels that supply the intestinal tract: bowels, colon, intestines, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas.. You’d be surprised how many digestive problems are due to treatable mesenteric artery problems. Here are some examples (partial listing)…

We can obtain images of your mesenteric arteries via special ultrasound or MRI, if requested or indicated. There are three main intestinal arteries supplying digestive organs that get damaged and symptoms depend upon which artery is affected. The celiac artery supplies the esophagus, stomach, upper duodenum, pancreas, gallbladder, liver and spleen. The superior mesenteric artery supplies the lower duodenum, small intestine and ascending and transverse colon. The inferior mesenteric artery supplies descending colon and rectum."

Other examples of “intestinal arteries” can be found on the Internet (e.g., https://www.evergreenhealth.com/blocked-arteries).
