Comment: "Through my extensive research, I have come to believe that this is a term coined by or for Jean Grand-Maître's work. Therefore, the approach taken in this article (to describe rather than attempt to provide an equivalent, i.e. "série de ballets musicaux, qu’il appelle portraits") is currently the best. I have tweaked it a bit to match my context.
This translation has now been delivered, but I would welcome other suggestions for future reference. I have also thought of "ballet hommage", or "ballet en hommage" in contexts that do not involve Grand-Maître.

it's clear it's a mélange of music/ballet and narrative to evoke a biography. Paola got a good reference but it's cleat these are called "Ballets musicaux"
