Portuguese term

presidente licenciado

Portuguese to English Other Government / Politics
This is from the report of a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry in Brazil. Specific individuals from an organisation are being questioned on allegations of corruption.

The passage reads as follows:

"Quero aqui, inicialmente, registrar que uma das informações – se assim podemos dizer – oferecidas pelo presidente licenciado da XXX foi de que tudo na XXX foi registrado..."

I'm wondering what "presidente licenciado" means here - I think the individual in question is the former president, and may possibly have been dismissed from his post, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm wondering if "licenciado" might mean "former" here, or whether I'm reading too much into it - I can't seem to find out exactly what "licenciado" means in this context. Any help much appreciated!

Sorry, What I meant is that Sarah has to find out if the company has a President, a CEO or a Chairman of the Board of Directors. You can surely use President, as long as that's what the company uses.

It is indeed a transcript, but in this case I think the transcriber has got it right - and Gilmar's translation works very well - thanks Gilmar! Thanks, also, for checking re President/CEO - one thing I actually do know in this case is that the individual in question is indeed the 'President' in English ;-)
Muriel Vasconcellos Jan 24, 2018:
President not necessarily the same as CEO I worked for a company that had both a president and a CEO.
Mario Freitas Jan 24, 2018:
President? It says "presidente da XXX", which likely implies XXX is a company, therefore the "presidente" of a company, therefore "CEO" or "Chairman" and not "President".

Transcript? Your text appears to be a transcript. Transcribers can come up with the strangest things! My favorite was "high rocky" for 'hierarchy'.

agree Matheus Chaud : I've seen that same construction on dozens of news stories (president... on leave).

president on leave of absence

I think this relates to a president being on leave of absence (whether remunerated or not).
