Spanish term

con buena entrada de aire pulmonar bilateral

Spanish to English Other Medical (general) Guatemala hospital exam record
I'm needing opinions as to whether I need to go literal, or there's a more acceptable option. This phrase is included in the thoracic exam during a hospital visit.

Tórax: Simétrico, sin hematomas, CON BUENA ENTRADA DE AIRE PULMONAR BILATERAL, murmullo vesicular conservado, ruidos cardíacos rítmicos y normofonéticos, vértebras torácicas alineadas, sin dolor a la palpación.

So, simply "good bilateral pulmonary airflow"? I don't see any Google hits for "bilateral pulmonary airflow".

As always, a thousand thanks!

bilateral adequate ventilation

"Ventilation" is the technical term for air entry into the lungs, and an English report might specify "adequate" or "normal" rather than "good" ventilation, IMO.

Purists sticking to the rule that findings and conclusions should strictly be separated in an examination report, might go with "breath sounds present in all lung fields" (as "adequate ventilation" is sort of conclusion already).

agree Charles Davis : My instinctive response is that "adequate bilateral ventilation" is a more natural order of the adjectives, and online examples seem to have them that way round. I don't know whether it makes a difference to the meaning; I don't think so.

Thanks Charles, I was obviously thinking too 'German' :-))
agree Neil Ashby : With Charles, "adequate bilateral ventilation" is more natural.

Who am I to argue with that - thanks Neil!

Thank you Chema :-)
agree Paula Graf : I agree with Charles and Neil. The correct term is "adequate bilateral ventilation". Just change the placement of the adjective, a simple syntax adjustment!

Thank you Paula :-) Unfortunately (or not), an answer cannot be edited, but I am sure Julie will adapt the word order to her needs if she chooses to use this phrase.

good air entry bilaterally

Examination findings are frequently written like this in hospital notes. I don´t think you really need to say "pulmonary" in the English version because it is implicit.

Just an additional note, since I haven´t given any refs, but I think it´s difficult to get good refs for this type of text because they´re not generally published.

agree Thomas Walker : Or bilateral air entry. Agree that "pulmonary" is implicit.
