Sarah Jamieson (asker) May 16, 2021:
Format of the document It is a standard birth certificate form - pre-printed an official form from the Municipality of Toulouse. Thanks. I have entered this term into the Proz Terminology to help others in the future.
Sarah Jamieson (asker) May 16, 2021:
Update Thank you for all your help. It is a note in the birth certificate in the general section.
AllegroTrans May 16, 2021:
@ All We all seem to be trying to answer each other's questions, but where is Sarah?
Dominique Stiver May 16, 2021:
vient ensuite le choix selon le pays (on retrouve "parentage" au Canada (ancien français) : https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/s16023
on pourrait alors penser à parentage-related events
Dominique Stiver May 16, 2021:
d'après ce que je trouve, je pencherais pour "line of descent" : The rates applicable to inheritances and gifts in line of descent and the rates applicable to gifts between spouses would be increased (i) from 35% to 40% for the portion of the taxable base between €902,838 and €1,805,677 and (ii) from 40% to 45% for the portion of the taxable base above €1,805,677 (Article 777 of the French Tax Code)

Here's a template for a French birth certificate (page 15)

The word "antérieur" is important in the footnotes
AllegroTrans May 15, 2021:
Asker Please post some of the text that follows this (anonymised of course)
ph-b (X) May 15, 2021:
(p. 28, http://www.textes.justice.gouv.fr/art_pix/JUSC1119808C.pdf) What would the generic term be in English? Good luck!
Daryo May 15, 2021:
Is that text part of a pre-printed form or is it part of the text filled in by the registrar?

If it's a form there should be somewhere in small print the name / reference of the form. What is it? Or better, do you have any link to a blank form?
Lara Barnett May 15, 2021:
@sarah Can you reveal any of the surrounding text to this? Is this a heading? An explanation? In the certificate notes? Or what exactly?

Events in relation to line of descent

It's a term that appears towards the end of partially-standardised French birth certificates (each Mairie seems to have a different version though).

The biological father may not declare himself (please excuse me, I forget the exact wording), so when and if he does, that bit goes in here.

I translated a lot of these for certified translations over an 18-month period recently.

The term is recognises.

"Maradona recognises long-denied son"

Here is some text from a template I use:

"MOTHER: SURNAME :
First names :
Date of birth :
Place of birth :
Profession :
Address :

***EVENTS IN RELATION TO DIRECT LINE OF DESCENT*** (prior to the drafting hereof)
The father and mother got married…
Informant: …
Document date and time: …
[...]"

To Sarah: you're welcome!

I had a previous translation, but I forgot what it was, before I came up with this one. It's a tricky one.

I don't know if you could actually simplify it to something about parents or parentage, because that's what it amounts to, really.
