This is a risk mapping for an energy company. I'm guessing it's an anglicism, but can't find any other similar uses.

@Johannes Gleim

Hi, sorry, the deadline just passed and I've handed it in. There's no more context to add, this was a list of "emerging trends" in society which might affect the energy company as part of a risk mapping.

In the end I decided, with the help of the info and links posted here, that homing had the general meaning of people spending more time at home, which would be of interest to an energy company.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to help.

@ Brendan Can you please provide more context on "confort et homing", since the term "homing" leads to many different interpretations? Are there any clues in the text from which we can deduct the meaning? If not, please ask the client for an explanation!
Johannes Gleim Apr 17:
One possibilty but looks not being linked to "confort". Moreover, the individual domestic power consumption cannot cause outages.

more time spent in the home

"working from home" was the first idea that came to mind here. But it's clearly not confined to work activities.

Michele's "cocooning" is a nice choice, and present in that link to a dictionary, and there's a Wikip entry on it. It seems to have been coined in the early 1980s, so nothing to do with recent years, pandemic, Zoom, WFH, etc. The trouble is that, on this side (eastern) of the Atlantic I have literally never heard of that term, ever.

It's not unheard-of for the French to come up with an anglicism which, though borrowed from an existing English word, actually means something entirely different, and which may take several words to express in English because we don't (yet) have a widely used snappy expression for "le homing".

it is already an English term

Thanks, yes I realise that, but none of its meanings make any sense in this context. Maybe the author has misunderstood the meaning.

the increased focus on home working, shopping, and leisure

I haven't found any dictionary support for this, but I think we need to look at the context, which is a list of risks facing a power company.

As our lifestyles change, so does our energy consumption. For example less capacity may be needed in city centres because fewer people work and shop there.

You could ignore 'confort et', or you could insert 'the convenience of' before 'home working'.

Cocooning is staying inside one's home, insulated from perceived danger, instead of going out. The term was coined in 1981 by Faith Popcorn, a trend forecaster and marketing consultant. It is used in social science, marketing, parenting, economic forecasting, self-help, religion, and has become part of standard English as defined by multiple dictionaries.

French term (edited): confort et bien-être

well-being and comfort

I assume that the author was inspired by the French term « confort et bien-être », but misunderstood it or was referring to home. Please verify this with the customer before use.

I am familiar with "homing" in robots and CNC machines, but I wonder what "homing" means in residential buildings.

Homing
In order for an incremental encoder interface to track and report absolute position, the encoder counts must be correlated to a reference position in the mechanical system to which the encoder is attached. This is commonly done by homing the system, which consists of moving the mechanical system (and encoder) until it aligns with a reference position, and then … the associated absolute position counts into the encoder interface's counter.

Well-being, or wellbeing,[1] also known as wellness, prudential value, prosperity or quality of life, is what is intrinsically valuable relative to someone. So the well-being of a person is what is ultimately good for this person, what is in the self-interest of this person.[2]

One of the fundamental aspects of keeping your property attractive to renters is maintaining it in top-notch condition. Schedule regular inspections to identify and address any maintenance issues promptly. Have the numbers of essential service providers, from plumbers in Houston to electricians in New York, on speed dial to ensure quick and efficient repairs whenever needed. By staying on top of maintenance and repairs, you prevent small issues from becoming expensive major problems and show prospective renters that you care about well-being and comfort.
