nomenclature

français vers anglais Affaires / Finance Gestion warehousing facilities
My question is , is (nomenclature) more suitable than (bill of materials )? concerning items in warehousing facilities Please find herein my translation; if you have any suggestions, you are more than welcome.

Nomenclature is a hierarchical presentation of product’s component, the link between the compound item, and it’s components, is called nomenclature link. In a tree representation, each component is followed by a coefficient. This indicates the number of units of this component in the compound item.

That's the very line I'm working on Michael.
Some kind of a preferential party system.
Michael GREEN Feb 2, 2010:
@ Carruthers You mean a "Party's list", rather than a "parts list" ?
;o)
liz askew Feb 2, 2010:
Oh, I see...."nomenclature" no longer makes my eyes pop out of my head, as I meet this in medical terminology:)
Carruthers (X) Feb 2, 2010:
Nomenklatura, what comes to mind when I hear nomenclature. Sorry, just rambling.
liz askew Feb 2, 2010:
Am I missing something Carruthers? How does "élite Soviet society" relate to this query??
Carruthers (X) Feb 2, 2010:
A pity nobody has come up with "elite Soviet society"
AkretcheFazia (asker) Feb 2, 2010:

Michael GREEN Feb 2, 2010:

Murphy adds that the same could be said of Boston Rack’s food and beverage business segment, where its employees’ years of experience working for a number of food and beverage companies gives them a leg up on competitors. This includes a keen awareness of each industry’s particular nomenclature.

For example, says John Chauncey, director of the food and beverage division for Boston Rack, in the beverage industry a “bib” is the plastic bag that holds the soda in a dispensing machine (Bag in a Box or bib), so when a client is talking about the number of bibs they need, Chauncey and his employees know what they are talking about and also understand the unique storage and stacking needs these items might have.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I really appreciate your help all of your answers are very beneficial , I choose nomenclature because it ’s the terminology applied for items or products , while bill of material would be for the compound items and the chemical constituent materials, thanks for all of you"

Bill of Materials

I would go with Bill of Materials here given the warehousing context. Nomenclature would not be wrong but has a wider meaning.

agree Carruthers (X) : definetly from the way it's described. it's not just an items list. Often just called the BOM.

1. component diagram 2. component-product (link)

I agree with Catharine - "nomenclature" does not ring true in English in this context. The clue is in the term "représentation arborescente", i.e. a diagramatic representation, with each component given a part number, rather than just a list. Component (or parts) diagram works for the first itteration but not the second. The hyphenated component-product or part-product (link) expresses the direct relationship between the two even more clearly than the Fench version.
For a warehouse (rather than construction related), list I would opt for parts list or schedule of components rather then "bill of materials".
