Although Copernic is in many ways the pick of the bunch, I find it uses up a lot of resources and tends to make my computer crash. Have others had the same experience?

Yes, the same here.
Google Desktop Search (you can try it, it is Copernic competition) is incompatible with http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=10742
The case with Copernic might be the same (I use NOD32 listed as Google Desktop Search incompatible).

Let me tell you that my compter also crashes sometimes.
Even if I have the benefit of regularly using Copernic, the precise reason for my computer's shortcomings are more unclear to me, though.
Several reasons may be brought forward to explain this:
- even if my computer isn't new any more, my feeling is that 4 years is not even meaning maturity yet;
- lack of RAM,
- memory full to 3/4.

However, I do not believe that Copernic may be considered as a major reason for its repeated defects.

My suggestion is that other members join the forum to find appropriate indications to your problem...

I am using Copernic DS on a Win 2000 system with 512 MB RAM without any problem.

In the Options I have flagged the default settings:
* Index update > Index performance > "when the program runs in background suspend indexing while I use my computer" > resume indexing after 30 seconds
* Index update > Index performance > "suspend indexing while computer resources are highly used" > resume indexing after low resources usage for at least 5 seconds

I can't provide conclusive proof but, even making the adjustments suggested by Gilberto, I still seem to be getting a general slowdown (and worse) with Copernic. This doesn't happen with Google Desktop Search (otherwise an inferior product IMO) or the excellent Blinkx.

PS I have Windows XP and 512 MO of RAM.
