About two years ago, I started experimenting with term extraction in order ease work within our little game translation group.

We found a simple but effective solution, pulling the main terminology with lexterm, pretranslating and sharing.

It's free, fast and simple to use, and I recommend it to anyone, but when I see solutions like Translated.net it makes me hungry for more powerful tools!

Anyone else tried their hand at this? What kind of solutions did you find?

A good lead May 28, 2011

I found a very good lead in the form of this blog mentioning scores of term extraction tools.

Give them look, very promising.

Extphr32 is better Jul 18, 2011

Hi! Just a quick update to say that Extphr32 (http://publish.uwo.ca/~craven/freeware.htm) is much less clunky than good old lexterm. Tried it once, never came back.

My favourite settings so far: minimum occurences 3, maximum words in phrase 20, stoplist, show full phrases, show multiword only, lowercase, show relative frequency, extract from clipboard, sort by frequency.

Sadly, Extphr32 is not case sensitive and will make everything uppercase (lowecase with the settings above). You will have to check this in context.

Also, memoQ 5 will have native support for term extraction, so we might soon to these tasks directly inside it.

Good work!
