Does anyone know of anyone who sells very generic termbases or TMs for trados? topics like microsoft come to mind for a nice termbase

Hello,
there are very few of them as selling TMs and TDBs would most probably violate the copyrights. However, you can download Microsoft Glossaries in TBX format and DGT EU memories in TMX. Also, the TAUS Association members are working on pooling TMs according to certain criteria and once this is done, the TMs (Microsoft, HP etc.) will be available to subscribers, AFAIK.
