Dutch term

plooien

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting welding
'Plooien van de pijpstukken volgens plannen (...)'

'Controle van de geplooide bochten volgens een kwaliteitsplan.(hardheden, ovaliteit, enz).'

'(...) de plooiprocedures en bijhorende plooitekeningen.'
--------------------------
My question is what would be the best English term for 'plooien,' in a (pipes/tubes) welding context? (Both as a verb and a noun.)

Thanks in advance!

Michael Beijer (asker) Apr 16, 2009:
No images, sadly enough.... I finally went with 'pleated pipe elbows.'
Ariser Apr 16, 2009:
Image Does the text come with a picture or diagram, per chance?
Nick van Boshoven Apr 15, 2009:
re i once translated it the other way around en - nl. think they used folding really. corrugated is something different.
Michael Beijer (asker) Apr 15, 2009:
Hmm 2 And what about 'corrugated'?

bending

Bend the pipe segments according to the plans/specifications.
Inspection of the bended pipe elbows according to...
Bending procedures and ...

Another alternative for "plooien", "crimping", would not be suitable in this context.

disagree Nick van Boshoven : maybe too late but i would maybe go for something like fold and folding in this case. bending doesnt imply plooien.

Dank u. Echter soms wel. Maar afhankelijk van context, dus zijn alternatieven mogelijk juister.
disagree vixen : I agree with Nick that "buigen" and "plooien" are not the same thing.

Note from asker:
Hmm. I think I might use 'creasing,' in combination with 'corrugated.' I just did a comparative Google Image search on: 'corrugated pipe elbow', and 'geplooide pijp bocht.'

post-grading: pleating, pleated

I think you closed the question a little too soon.

See references/pictures for pleated elbow below.
