Graham Timmins: Two different meanings! You know the drill when you are expected to perform a sequence of operations without thinking (as in the army). This is about recognising a familiar predicament - to know the story or your alt. You know how it is both fit.

Christine Andersen: I would not say the two were so different - we used to say ´you know the drill´ in my family when we meant something like ´here we go again´ - and Christmas can easily turn into a long sequence of rituals followed because everyone else does too.
