There was a similar scheme called Kickstart in the UK with six-month placements for the unemployed. Participants did not have a special name. You'll have to write something explanatory.

I am not sure that the Danish system of 'virksomhedspraktikanter' is widely known (if at all) in English-speaking countries. I believe it could be a particularly Danish construction (perhaps Scandinavian - I'm not familiar with the situation in our neighbours to the north).

A more or less literal translation would be 'company trainee', but this could easily be understood differently by an English language reader unless the text is more specific about the terms of employment of the trainee.

I think the term "intern" is too broad in this context. I am trying to find the official English term - if it exists - for a person who is required/asked by a Danish employment center (Jobcenter) to work in a job placement position for up to four weeks - not just an ordinary intern.

If you don't want to call it an internship, how about a placement?
