1. Patrick is right: there is a clear distinction between 'step' and 'in-law' in English; but both are 'beau/belle/beaux' in French, as pointed out by mariealpilles. 2. The English ST is badly worded. "adoptive parents, step-parents and step-grandparents" are not "ancestors", at least from a genealogical point of view. 3. Even before considering the implicacions of the absence of differentiation in the French terms, the English ST is utterly ambiguous in English. 'step grandparents' could refer to the real parents of a step-father or step-mother of the insured person, or to the step-parents of the subject's (insured's) real father or mother. Whatever the translation adopted by Asker, there's plenty of scope here for a tremendous legal fight. |
