samensmelting, versmelting (cofusie?) 2. Engels: The intermetallic compounds are synthesized by cofusion of the pure elements under controlled atmosphere in high frequency induction furnace, by arc-melting or mechanical alloying. The hydrides of those compounds are synthesized by solid-gas reaction in volumetric devices (Sievert's method). They allow to measure the thermodynamic properties of the hydrides. They can also be synthesized by electrochemical reaction following the reaction used in nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. The crystal structure of the intermetallic compounds and of their hydrides are characterized by X-ray and neutron diffraction. Their physical properties are studied by magnetic measurements, Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy... |
