it's a medical term... I think it's "to show" but I'm not sure. Can someone clarify this for me... =)

The proper form of the verb is "fainomai" - to appear. To show would have been "deichno".

agree  aeolis: phaino is an ancient greek word , root of the modern greek verb phainomai.Catohlic may have confused this word with the word phainol which is a chemistry term.

neutral  Dylan Edwards: I at least agree with the explanation of the verb phaino/fainomai. This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the exact context. This could be the Greek equivalent of the taxonomic term phenon or phenom.
